Supporting the Dying & their Caregivers
Supporting someone in their final months or weeks of life can be challenging, even when our love and care run deep. We may find ourselves hesitating or avoiding, unsure of what to say or how to provide meaningful presence. It's essential to recognize that this discomfort is not your fault; most of us aren't taught how to navigate the journey of death and dying.
Allow me to offer guidance and support to both you and your loved ones during this precious and sacred time. I will:
Facilitate Individual Circle of Care Sessions: I'll meet separately with caregivers, family members, and friends to understand where each person is, in their journey with grief.
Provide Insight into the Dying Process: I'll share what to expect in the months, weeks, and days before death, including an understanding of the symptoms the person may experience. This knowledge can help alleviate anxiety by demystifying the natural process of the "labor of dying".
Empower the Circle of Care: I will explain how the circle of care can best support the person who is nearing the end of life, fostering a more compassionate, peaceful, and informed caregiving environment.
Offer Respite Care and Companion Visits: If desired, I can provide respite care or companion visits to offer additional support and comfort. See "Respite Care & Companionship" for more details.
My goal is to help you make the most of these final moments and create a space of grace, love, and understanding for all involved.
